Founded in 1981 by Musician-Arranger John Montesante, GRAND WAZOO — Australia’s Kings of Soul is a prestigious 14+ piece Supergroup, which presents outstanding & entertaining artists performing rare soul gems, band original tunes and much loved songs of the stellar soul era.
Fronted by 4 Lead Singers, a permanent 6 piece Horn Section and 4 Rhythm players, GRAND WAZOO presents a 'Soul Extravaganza' up to 2 x 1 hour sets with interval, or 3 shorter sets and is flexible for Media & Festival gigs. The band plays Montesante’s vibrant orchestrations, and the band is acknowledged as a ‘Soul Institution’; the only one of its particular ilk within Australia.
GRAND WAZOO has performed through Australia, and abroad and has backed and supported many International and local artists, and fostered talents that have become ‘names’ within the Australian Industry. Many local outfits that have followed in the Soul genre, have taken inspiration from this mighty band.
